With the government shutdown still in effect as of Oct. 31st, 2025, a full pay period without a paycheck now passed, and rent due on the first of the month for many, a lot of furloughed workers may be wondering how theyre going to keep a roof over their heads.
Thats where rental assistance programs with the City of Tucson come in.
Natalie Bacas home is one of more than 5,000 households relying on the city's housing choice voucher program.
"I was on the streets before this opportunity, and they were able to get me an apartment," Baca said. "It has changed my life drastically, obviously, like Im able to actually go look for a job. I cant even explain how much its helped me, having a roof over my head."
