Anant Kumar Singh, a candidate from the Janata Dal (United) for the Mokama Assembly seat, was arrested by Patna Police on November 2, 2025, in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj Party worker Dularchand Yadav. The police operation took place at Singh's residence in Barh, near Patna, where around 150 personnel were involved in the arrest. Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma confirmed the arrest but did not provide further details.
Dularchand Yadav was killed during an election campaign for Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi on October 30, 2025. Reports indicate that a violent clash occurred between rival groups, leading to Yadav being shot and subsequently run over by a vehicle. An autopsy revealed that he suffered a ruptured lung and multiple rib fractures, but ruled out gunshot wounds as the cause of death.
An FIR filed by Yadav's grandson, Neeraj Kumar, named Anant Singh and four others as accused. The police have registered multiple FIRs related to the incident, and two other individuals have already been arrested. Singh has alleged that the attack was a conspiracy led by former RJD MP Surajbhan Singh, claiming that his supporters instigated the violence.
In response to the murder, the Election Commission has taken action by replacing the Patna Rural Superintendent of Police and the Mokama returning officer, while also initiating disciplinary proceedings against three officials for their lapses. The Mokama Assembly seat is set to vote on November 6, 2025, and the incident has heightened political tensions in the region, with opposition leaders criticizing the administration's handling of law and order during the election period.
