Nine people were injured by hail at the 150th anniversary of the Esk State School on Saturday afternoon, as dangerous storms lash Brisbane and parts of south-east Queensland.

Car windows were shattered and a number of people at the anniversary celebrations were injured. Paramedics confirmed nine people were treated by the Queensland Ambulance Service.

A man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Gatton Hospital with minor injuries. Two women, aged in their 20s and 30s, were taken privately to hospital with minor injuries.

The remaining five people did not need transport.

The school had attempted to dodge the rain by starting celebrations early, at noon.
