PORT HURON — Historically, the high school football rivalry between Marysville and Port Huron has been dominated by the former.
But on Saturday, Nov. 1, the series' first-ever postseason meeting belonged to the latter.
The Red Hawks scored the first 17 points and stifled the Vikings, 24-14, in a Division 3 district semifinal at Memorial Stadium.
Senior quarterback Joey Gilbert had three rushing touchdowns for Port Huron, which improved to 7-3 overall and advanced to next week's district final against Warren De La Salle Collegiate.
Senior running back Cole Busen ran for one touchdown to lead Marysville (7-3).
Port Huron scored on the game's opening drive when Gilbert took a keeper three yards up the middle. His run capped an eight-play, 75-yard drive.
