Rock climbers are openly encouraging peers to defy Parks Victoria's requests to stay off culturally significant routes at Mount Arapiles Dyurrite, as debate continues over access to the western Victorian destination.
Parks Victoria has asked climbers to stay away from five climbs at the site, which is the subject of a proposed management plan to protect culturally significant areas .
There are no legal repercussions for ignoring the request.
On the Climbing Access Discussion — Victoria Facebook group, which has about 4,200 members, multiple users are advocating for climbers to ignore the Parks Victoria request.
The comments have been fervent, frequent and from multiple climbers.
