CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A judge has sentenced a North Charleston man to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in a case of child sexual abuse.
Sheldon Bennett, 54, pleaded guilty to seven counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor before going forward with a trial set for Monday. He was sentenced by the Honorable Jennifer McCoy to 20 years, giving credit for time on house arrest, according to Solicitor Scarlett Wilson.
The charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
An adult victim notified law enforcement in June 2021 of sexual abuse by Bennett when they were a child from the ages of 3 to 12 years old. The abuse would happen when Bennett would take care of the victim.
