MEMPHIS, Tenn. - An officer shot a person near Corky's in Cordova Friday afternoon, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

The TBI said that Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy requested that the agency investigate the circumstances that led to an officer-involved shooting in the 1700 block of North Germantown Parkway.

According to the TBI, investigators with federal agencies were in the area for lunch when a suspect shot a person during an attempted robbery at a nearby business. The gunman fled on foot through the parking lot.

The TBI said for reasons still under investigation, the situation escalated resulting in law enforcement shooting the suspect.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition, the TBI said.
