BOSTON — Behind a terrific bounce-back effort by Jeremy Swayman and a strong start to the third period, the Bruins earned one of their best wins this season.
The Hurricanes came in leading the NHL in scoring, but Swayman kept them off the board until late. He made 27 saves in the 2-1 win as Boston improved to 7-7-0.
The Bruins are at the Islanders on Tuesday.
The first two periods featured entertaining back-and-forth hockey, solid goaltender play, but no goals.
Casey Mittelstadt cracked the lid early in the third period with the best back-to-back shifts of the season. In transition, Pavel Zacha fed Charlie McAvoy as the Bruins crossed into the Hurricanes’ zone. The defenseman carried deep, all the way to the inner edge of the right wing circle before feeding a pass across the slot.
