RANDOLPH, Mass. —
Saturday was the annual "Pack the Pantry" 5K road race in Randolph, Massachusetts.
The wind did not deter nearly 300 racers who gathered to give back to their community.
All food donations went to the Randolph Friendly Food Pantry.
Organizers say this year's contributions were more important than ever, with cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program .
"Congress needs to do its job," said James Butler, one of the coordinators for the race. "Congress doesn’t do its job. This is our way of helping people who are in need. I think the SNAP benefits make people more aware of those people who are facing food crises and food needs."
Amanda Reed, the executive director of the Randolph Friendly Food Pantry, echoed similar sentiments.
