MOATSVILLE, W.Va. (WBOY) — Barbour County was cooking up a new project on Saturday to connect local youth with adults in the county.
New Vision held its first annual Barbour-Q, a mentorship opportunity for youth to form teams with men in the community to learn how to master the grill.
Samuel Christie, the youth director for New Vision, spoke with 12 News about their reasoning behind the event.
“Something that has come up very consistently is Kids feel like there's nothing to do, and kids feel like adults don't care about them and so we thought teaming them up with barbeques and making them cook meat for me personally was a good way for them to overcome that and build relationships that are healthy and positive," Christie said.
