The Matlidas may have had a frustrating night against England in midweek, but Ellie Carpenter and Sam Kerr ended the week on a high by scoring the goals that kept Chelsea top of the table.

Chelsea are a point ahead of Manchester City in the English Women’s Super League after a 2-0 win over London City Lionesses at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Summer signing Carpenter, 25, scored her first goal for the Blues since moving from Lyon after six minutes, finishing at the back post from Sandy Baltimore’s low cross.
