MACON, Ga. — A piece of history and heart came to life in Macon this weekend as a celebrated local artist used fabric, color, and storytelling to honor the millions who were lost during the transatlantic slave trade.

Local textile and fabric artist Wini McQueen unveiled her latest work, titled “Quilt of Names,” during a special exhibit at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The 12-by-12-foot multimedia, interactive quilt tells the story of more than ten million people of the African diaspora — weaving together themes of memory, identity, and resilience.

"A hundred names to get pasted into this painted quilt to show how names were refigured, remembered or lost," McQueen said.
