LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Alberta Rodgers marked a major milestone on Saturday as she celebrated her 100th birthday with a gathering of family, friends and city officials at the West Central Community Center.

Rodgers, a longtime nurse known for her dedication to elder care, was honored for her decades of service and community involvement. She offered simple advice when asked about the secret to a long life.

“Be good, do good things for other people,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers has been a member of Macedonia Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She raised four daughters and one son and is the proud grandmother of 10.
