Two men have been arrested after a number of people were stabbed on a train to Huntingdon, north of London, police said on Saturday.

Cambridgeshire police said they were called at 7.39pm (GMT) after reports multiple people had been stabbed on a train.

"Armed officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested. A number of people have been taken to hospital," the police said in a statement.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer posted on X that the "appalling incident" was deeply concerning.

"My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response."

An eye witness told Sky News UK he saw someone moving through his carriage saying: "They've got a knife, I've been stabbed."
