Skyview girls soccer coach Matt Houghton began his postgame speech with the words “it only takes one moment.”

Harper Royle provided that moment Saturday to send Skyview to the Class 4A state playoffs.

Royle’s long-distance goal with less than four minutes on the clock gave Skyview a 1-0 win over Puyallup in the first round of the bi-district tournament at Kiggins Bowl.

After Puyallup had dominated the possession in the second half, Skyview mounted a counterattack. Royle received the ball and let loose a high, dipping shot from 35 yards.

Puyallup’s goalkeeper got a hand on the shot but couldn’t keep it out of the net.

“I saw the opportunity,” Royle said. “Reese (Harrison) played a great pass to me. I just knew I had to get a touch and shoot it.”
