FARGO — Arguably two of the best quarterbacks in Division I football were in Fargo on Saturday and it wasn’t somebody from the Big Ten or SEC. Little ol’ Division I Football Championship Subdivision has some guys who can sling it and shake and bake, also.
North Dakota State’s Cole Payton and Youngstown State’s Beau Brungard were worth the price of admission alone. Yes, football is a team game but if you didn’t leave Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome thoroughly entertained by the QBs, then maybe you should re-evaluate your enjoyment level.
Brungard was a load, especially with feet quicker than anybody NDSU has seen this season. Tackling him in a 1-on-1 situation? Good luck. He frequently shunned the first defender and found yards other QBS usually don’t at this level, or any level.
