ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The Indiana State Police are investigating an inmate's death at the St. Joseph County Jail. The inmate suffered what is believed to be a medical emergency and died Saturday afternoon.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 3:30 p.m., an inmate in the medical ward began to suffer from a medical emergency. Jail staff began life-saving measures, including the use of an AED, until South Bend EMT arrived. Despite lifesaving measures, the inmate, a 50-year-old male, was declared deceased at the jail.
An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted on Monday, November 3, at Western Michigan University. Share
