SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Indiana State Police have been asked to investigate a death at a northern Indiana jail.
According to a release from ISP, around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 an inmate at the St. Joseph County Jail in South Bend was in the medical ward when they began to suffer from a "medical emergency."
Jail staff reportedly began life-saving measures, including using an AED, until South Bend EMTs arrived on scene. However, police say despite those life-saving measures, the 50-year-old man was eventually pronounced dead at the jail.
Police say an autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 3 at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
State police did not release the man's name.
