PINE BLUFF, Ark. (WAFB) - Entering Saturday, Southern won 11 of the last 12 matchups against Arkansas Pine-Bluff. That included a four-game streak.
Saturday’s game looked like the opposite as UAPB dominated Southern 40-21 to increase the Jaguars’ (1-8, 0-5 SWAC) losing streak to seven games.
After Southern muffed the opening kickoff, the Golden Lions scored the first points on a DJ Stevenson touchdown run. In the second quarter, SU tied it up with an Ashton Strother 19-yard touchdown pass to Darren Morris. Morris scored two TDs for the game.
UAPB responded with 31 unanswered points. Christian Peters and Breaux Bridge native Ellis Stewart connected for two touchdowns.
Despite facing a porous UAPB rush defense that allowed nearly 200 yards per game, Southern totaled only 74 rushing yards
