LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A mother has pleaded guilty in the drowning death of her child that happened back in January .
Amber Winstead pleaded guilty on Friday to manslaughter, and faces up to seven years in prison, court documents showed.
Louisville Metro Police officers responded to a motel on Airport Hotel Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 1. When police arrived, they entered one of the rooms and found a baby, believed to be about 3 months old, who had drowned in a bathtub.
According to Winstead's arrest citation, she used narcotics prior to getting into the bathtub with the child.
While officers were on the scene, she admitted to taking a bath with the child and then another person woke her up hours later, but the baby had already submerged in the tub and drowned, the citation said.
