PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - After a three-day trial on whether President Donald Trump can legally deploy National Guard members to Portland wrapped up on Friday, Trump-appointed federal judge Karin Immergut said she will issue a decision before midnight on Sunday.

Also on Friday, Judge Immergut asked both sides to submit written briefings by Sunday afternoon as she considers the case.

Shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday, both briefs had been submitted.

Attorneys for the city and state are attempting to block Trump from deploying troops by arguing that they aren’t needed to enforce the laws and that the president should not be allowed to use the military to remedy a situation worsened by federal agents.
