TERRE HAUTE — 'Best team in school history' has a nice ring to it.

Especially for the three seniors from Bloomington South, Jasmine and Aurelia Martoglio and Julianne Hoover, who started their cross country careers in 2022 by getting the Panthers back to state after a blip the season before snapped a 14-year streak.

South was 16th. Then 14th. Then ninth last year, knowing six of the top seven were returning. No South girls cross country team had ever placed better than the 2009 squad, which was seventh.

They knew they could do better and did, putting four in the top 60 to finish third at the IHSAA girls state meet on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the LaVern Gibson Course.
