ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) - The Indiana State Police has been requested to investigate, after an inmate suffered a suspected medical emergency, and died.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 1, an inmate in the medical ward began suffering a medical emergency.
Jail staff started lifesaving measured, including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), until South Bend EMTs arrived.
Despite the lifesaving measures, the 50-year-old male inmate was declared dead at the jail.
An autopsy is currently scheduled for Nov. 3, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
