The longtime, often heated rivalry between Paulsboro and Woodbury took an unprecedented turn for the worse Saturday when an ugly brawl marred the end of their NJSIAA/Xfinity South Jersey, Group 1 quarterfinal in Paulsboro.

The second-seeded Red Raiders were declared the winners, as they were leading the seventh-seeded Thundering Herd, 38-0, with 4:41 remaining when the fight erupted and the game was called.

Paulsboro improved to 9-1 and advanced to the sectional semifinals against sixth-seeded Schalick, but it was not immediately clear whether the Red Raiders would face discipline from the NJSIAA for their part in the melee or whether they would be eligible for the next round.
