Nationals MPs have voted to abandon the party’s commitment to net zero by 2050, setting the stage for a showdown with the Liberals over Coalition climate policy.
Sources told The Australian that the party would dump the target but maintain a commitment to take climate change seriously.
Sky News understands the decision was unanimous.
Nationals leader David Littleproud will make an announcement at 1.30pm after a special party room meeting was held on Sunday morning.
It comes after Sky News revealed the Nationals’ climate policy review by Queensland Senator Matt Canavan and NSW Senator Ross Cadell recommended dumping net zero.
