SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - A former jailer, fired after alleged murderer Joshua Zimmerman escaped from the DeSoto County courthouse, filed a lawsuit against DeSoto County and the State of Mississippi.
Ronnie Hunt, who worked for the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department from 2016 until 2024, claimed that he was wrongfully terminated and that he did not assist or participate in Zimmerman's escape.

Authorities arrested Hunt following the escape and charged him with aiding an escape. Hunt was never indicted on that charge. The former jailer said that he suffered severe emotional distress, loss of income, reputational harm, and humiliation from the arrest and public termination.
