COVINGTON, Tenn. - The Covington Police Department (CPD) are teaming with community partners to support families affected by potential federal assistance interruptions and to prevent crime encouraged by social media posts.

CPD said additional personnel and patrols will be in place throughout the city to maintain public safety after multiple viral posts online encouraging theft and property damage.

“We know many families are worried, and we’re engaging with community partners to make sure help is available for anyone who needs it," said Chief Donna Turner. "We’re also taking proactive steps to protect our businesses and keep the peace throughout our city.”

Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley said they will assist Covington police and other local agencies.
