BEDFORD – The St. Thomas Aquinas High School field hockey team probably had many reasons for wanting to win a state title, but two were brought up postgame late Saturday afternoon at Bedford High School.

The program’s first and only other championship came 22 years ago and their opponent, Mascenic, had beaten the Saints during the regular season and saddled them with their first loss.

Using a relentless and balanced attack, St. Thomas rolled to a thorough 4-0 victory over the Vikings to capture its first Division III championship. The other came in 2003 when the Saints defeated Merrimack Valley for the Class I crown.
