Whenever there’s a lull in the game or a commercial break, an emcee on stage at Nathan Phillips Square takes the opportunity to hype up the crowd.

“Tonight is about this city. Tonight is about making history. Toronto if you take pride in where you’re from, let me hear you,” he shouted.

He led the crowd in chants and offered his own commentary in between plays.

“I want you to look to the person next to you right now and do the one simple thing,” he said. “I don’t care if you know them or not. Just say, ‘We got this!’”

After Andrés Giménez was hit by a fastball, chaos broke out inside the stadium, and jeers erupted in the square. The emcee tried his best to redirect the crowd’s anger with a series of cheers.
