EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) -- The inaugural Veterans Memorial Coliseum Gala took place at the Old National Events Plaza Saturday.
The event paid tribute to Vanderburgh County men who fought in the American Civil War and the Spanish-American War. The coliseum has long stood as a memorial and funds raised tonight will help restore the historic building.
"It represents all of the Tri-State veterans,” Jill Hahn said. “It was originally built to honor the Spanish American War heroes as well as the Civil War. As time progressed, it was meant to be World War I, World War II, and then later on as we progressed, our Vietnam veterans as well. So this is truly a symbol of Evansville as well as the veterans that have served our country."
