MADISON (WKOW) -- Workers gathered outside the Starbucks on State Street in Madison, joining baristas nationwide in a rally for what they call a fair union contract. Unionized stores across the country will soon begin voting to authorize a strike. Workers are demanding better pay, job stability, and safer working conditions.
"We love our jobs, we love our regulars, and we love the people, but sometimes there's no other way than to leverage our labor together," said Arielle Weir.
Weir, a Starbucks employee for six years, emphasized the need for baristas to increase pressure on the company.
"Regulars at my store always seem very shocked that they've known we've been unionized for over three years, but we still don't have a solid contract," Weir said.
