LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Christian World Ministries has been holding a food pantry every first Saturday of each month for the last 20 years.
But the demand this month is different as the federal government shutdown continues limiting SNAP benefits for families.
“It’s a little bit more today. We can definitely see that cars are still coming in. They were lined up here at 8 o’clock this morning ready to go. So, yes I think it is a little more and also the holiday season we know there’s economic things going on. We all feel it but also the holiday season coming up with Thanksgiving and Christmas, it’ll always increase the number,” said Pastor Hope Snider.
The pantry has over 20 volunteers and is partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank.
Some of the items provided in the bags are canned g
