YOUNGSVILLE, LA. (KLFY) -- A monument honoring Captain Steven L. Bennett, Youngsville's only Medal of Honor recipient, was dedicated today at the Youngsville Sports Complex.
Captain Bennett, a U.S. Air Force pilot and Youngsville native, was killed in action during the Vietnam War in 1972. He received the Medal of Honor posthumously for his heroic actions in saving his co-pilot's life.
"It means a lot to me to know that he's not forgotten," said Angela Bennett-Engele, Bennett's daughter. "It's important to remember our service members."
"Lots of work, lots of disappointments, lots of time. But it all came together," said Bill Miller, the project organizer.
