Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans are vital instruments for diagnosing medical conditions and examining the well-being of bones and organs. Now, scientists believe they could also detect early warning signs of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) by examining our tongues more closely.
MND is a progressive condition that reduces life expectancy by targeting the nerves that control movement, called motor neurons. This typically results in muscle deterioration, making speech, breathing, movement, and swallowing challenging, with symptoms deteriorating over months or years.
