BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A Birmingham family returned home Saturday evening after being stranded in Jamaica for more than a week due to Hurricane Melissa.
The emotional reunion took place at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport with flowers, balloons and hugs as family members welcomed the travelers home.
The family had planned their Jamaican vacation to celebrate a birthday but found themselves stuck at their resort when flights were cancelled due to an incoming hurricane.
“Jesus is awesome. He brought us through a hurricane that was a Hurricane 5, worse than Katrina. We prayed. We trust in Jesus. My mom, my pastor, my sisters always told us to trust him. He brought us to it and he brought us through it,” said Jacqueline Pettus.
