CHERRY HILL - Paul VI senior Emma McCarthy continued her big-game heroics while Washington Township senior Ayden Anderson earned some serious redemption.
Together both worked overtime to lead their respective teams to championships in the South Jersey Soccer Coaches Tournament at DeCou Field in Cherry Hill.
McCarthy’s header in the second overtime gave Paul VI a 3-2 win over Shawnee in the opening championship game. During the nightcap, Anderson’s goal in the first overtime propelled Washington Township to a 1-0 victory over St. Augustine.
For Paul VI (20-0) it was the first Coaches Tournament title in school history. To make matters more difficult, Paul VI had to overcome a 2-0 deficit to win its first championship.
