Wearing a superhero costume, actor and filmmaker DezBaa’ emerged from the voting booth Friday afternoon after casting a ballot in the crowded Santa Fe mayor’s race.
She’d done her homework. She’d studied each of the eight candidates’ platforms, which made ranking them under the city’s ranked choice voting system easier.
Still, DezBaa’ said ranked choice voting, which Santa Fe introduced to the electorate in March 2018, can trip up voters.
“I think there’s a little bit of confusion as far as like, ‘Do we really have to pick all eight, and why don’t we just pick … the one that we want?’ ” she said.
(You can rank as many or as few as you want; and yes, you can rank only your top choice and stop, but if your No. 1 is eliminated, you’ve lost your chance to participate in the instant runoff.
