SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – Mater Dei picked the best time of the girls volleyball season to play its best volleyball.

The Monarchs swept San Juan Hills in three sets Saturday to advance to the CIF Southern Section Division 1 final. The scores: 25-15, 25-11 and 25-15.

Mater Dei (31-5) will play Sierra Canyon (38-3) in the championship match Saturday at 6 p.m. at Cerritos College. Sierra Canyon beat Marymount in five sets in the other Division 1 semifinal on Saturday.

Mater Dei won CIF-SS championships last season and in 2023. The Monarchs beat Sierra Canyon in last year’s Division 1 final . Mater Dei and Sierra Canyon have not played against each other this season.
