City Judge Srinagar, Abdul Bari, has convicted Mohammad Shafi Banday, former Managing Director of J&K Cooperative Central Land Development Bank, for forging his date of birth to unlawfully extend his service tenure, say media reports.

The court sentenced him to two years’ simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under each of Sections 420, 468, and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code, with sentences to run concurrently.

Crime Branch Kashmir’s investigation revealed Banday had altered records to show 1939 instead of 1934 as his birth year, overstaying service by over seven years and causing loss to the state exchequer.
