CLIFTON — Democrat Mikie Sherrill stood before an Elks Lodge packed with union workers and Passaic County Democratic partisans and offered up her closing pitch of the governor’s race.
Notably, she never mentioned her opponent, Republican Jack Ciattarelli. She made it clear in her Nov. 1 appearance that she was running against a much larger target. The Montclair congresswoman's main message was fairly direct: Electing her on Tuesday will deal a harsh rebuke to President Donald Trump and his MAGA movement.
Her victory in the New Jersey governor's contest would perhaps send shockwaves of confidence across an exhausted nation ready to turn the corner on Trumpism.
The flip-side of that sentiment, of course, is that a Sherrill loss in Blue New Jersey would deal a demoralizing blow to Demo
