Blue badge fines have soared in Birmingham over the last few years, new figures have shown.

Thousands got into trouble for misuse of blue badges, which usually involves motorists using badges which don't belong to them.

In some cases, badges of dead people have been used, a BirminghamLive investigation found.

Fines almost doubled in Birmingham between 2023 and 2024.

It tallies with a national 'explosion' in blue badge fraud seen across the country in the last few years, as brazen drivers try to get around parking rules.

Between May and December 2022 there were 4,117 recorded offences. There were then 6,182 in the whole of 2023.
