The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a strong attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav following his Halloween celebration with family, which has gone viral on social media. The BJP's Kisan Morcha shared videos showing Yadav celebrating the festival with his grandchildren, while also recalling his earlier comments where he dismissed the Maha Kumbh festival as "faltu" (meaningless).
In a post on X, the BJP stated, "Don’t forget, people of Bihar, this is the same Lalu Yadav who called the grand Kumbh of faith and spirituality useless and is now celebrating the British festival of Halloween. Whoever strikes at faith, the people of Bihar will not vote for him." This criticism comes as Bihar prepares for assembly elections, with voting scheduled for November 6 and 11, and results to be announced on November 14.
The controversy reignited after Lalu's daughter, Rohini Acharya, shared videos of the family Halloween celebration, captioning it with a festive greeting. The videos depict Yadav enjoying the occasion with his grandchildren, who were dressed in Halloween costumes.
Earlier this year, Lalu Prasad Yadav had sparked outrage when he referred to the Maha Kumbh, held in Prayagraj, as "faltu" during a media interaction. His comments followed a tragic stampede at a railway station that resulted in multiple fatalities. When asked about the significance of the Kumbh, he remarked, "Kumbh ka kahan koi matlab hai. Faltu hai Kumbh (Is there any meaning to Kumbh? It is just meaningless)."
These remarks drew sharp criticism from BJP leaders and Hindu religious figures, who accused him of politicising a tragedy and disrespecting Hindu sentiments. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha condemned Yadav's comments, stating they insulted Sanatana Dharma.
As the political landscape heats up ahead of the elections, the BJP's focus on Lalu's Halloween celebration and past comments on the Kumbh highlights the ongoing tensions between the two parties in Bihar's electoral politics.
