Former Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce has declared he has no plans to rejoin the party despite a major decision to abandon the net zero by 2050 policy.

Nationals leader David Littleproud on Sunday said their party room had unanimously voted to scrap its commitment to a net zero by 2050 target , but insisted the party was “not denying the science of climate change”.

“What we're saying is there's a better, cheaper, fairer way to address it," he told reporters in Canberra.

Following the announcement, Mr Joyce has quashed the idea of potentially reuniting with the Nationals, saying he required more assurances the party would resist the rollout of large-scale renewables projects.
