What started as small, optional online services has now grown into a business model where car owners pay monthly or yearly fees for features that earlier came free.
Big carmakers are already experimenting with this idea. BMW, for example, offered a monthly plan for heated seats and heated steering wheels in markets like South Korea and the UK, charging around $18 a month.
