Hermosillo (Mexico), Nov 2: At least 23 people, including several children, were killed and 11 others injured after a powerful explosion ripped through a supermarket in northern Mexico’s Sonora state on Saturday, officials said.
The injured were rushed to hospitals in Hermosillo, where the blast occurred, as rescue teams searched the debris for survivors.
Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo said in a video statement that “a number of the victims we’ve found were minors” and ordered a “thorough and transparent investigation” to determine the cause of the explosion and identify those responsible.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed condolences to the families of the victims on social media platform X, saying she had spoken to Governor Durazo and directed Interior Secretary Rosa Icela
