For the sixth time in school history and first time since 2000, Ashbrook football has finished its regular-season slate unblemished.
The Green Wave put a bow on an unbeaten regular season with a hard-fought 16-0 victory over rival Hunter Huss. It was Ashbrook’s sixth consecutive win in Gastonia’s “Battle for the Bell,” the best run by either side in a series which started in 1970.
Ashbrook now leads the all-time series 32-23. But by no means did this one come easy.
The Green Wave clinged to a 9-0 advantage deep into the fourth quarter, their only points coming on a touchdown pass from A.J. McClain to wideout Tyler Morgan and a Uziel Garcia field goal. A long run by Savion Lindsay put Ashbrook in position for a Martino Smith rushing TD, giving it a two-score advantage.
