Two people died and 16 others were injured after a Haryana-registered tempo fell into a 15-meter-deep gorge near Nainital on Saturday night.
The vehicle was returning from Kainchi Dham when it reportedly lost control around 11 PM and plunged into the valley.
The deceased have been identified as Gaurav Bansal from Badarpur, Delhi, and the driver, Sonu, from Haryana.
An SDRF team reached the site on receiving the information and conducted a rescue operation that continued till 4:30 AM.
All 16 injured passengers were rushed to Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani, and are currently undergoing treatment.
According to initial investigations, the accident occurred due to the driver losing control of the vehicle.
