The Detroit Lions didn’t bother to meet with J.J. McCarthy when he left Michigan football for the 2024 NFL Draft.
They didn’t have a need at quarterback, Lions coach Dan Campbell said. More importantly: “I knew we didn’t have a shot at that one.”
The Minnesota Vikings traded up to take McCarthy with the 10 th pick of the first round, and 18 months later, McCarthy will make his third career NFL start – and play his first game in the state of Michigan since he led the Wolverines to the 2023 College Football Playoff championship – on Sunday, Nov. 2, against the Lions.
