The Women’s Cricket World Cup will witness a new champion on Sunday as hosts India face South Africa in the final, with both teams eyeing their first-ever world title after a challenging month-long, nine-match campaign.
India, two-time runners-up in the ODI World Cup, lost the finals in 2005 and 2017 to Australia and England respectively, and also fell short in the 2020 T20 World Cup final against Australia.
For South Africa, this marks a historic milestone, their first appearance in a 50-over World Cup final. The Proteas had previously reached back-to-back T20 World Cup finals in 2023 and 2024, losing to Australia and New Zealand.
