MILTON — Thomas Bender had a perfectly valid reason for prematurely celebrating a historic goal for the Southern Columbia boys soccer program.

Just 82 seconds into overtime, Bender received a pass from Ben Gehret and fired a shot into the net that sent the Tigers to their first District 4 Class A championship and state tournament appearance since 2005 in a 2-1 win over Millville at Milton's Alumni Stadium.
